The “Need to Knows”
Welcome to Westwood! We are so glad you’ve found our website, and we hope to meet you soon. Below are some “Need to Knows” that should answer some immediate questions you might have. Feel free to browse around the rest of the website to learn more about us!
WHO IS OUR CHURCH LEADER?
David Hammond is the Church Leader- the Vicar (*well technically ‘priest in charge’). He and Caroline, and their 3 children moved to Coventry & Westwood in March 2015. He is usually talking, or firing off a new idea, some of which are quite good…Being a husband and Dad of a busy and lively family is priority as is making sure there’s always time to stop and be still with God. Being outdoors in the garden is a major recharge activity as is time with friends and family usually discussing ideas/sport/church/whatever over good meaty food, and good cheese and spirits.
David has a passion to see his city and nation changed in his life time, to upgrade the armour of every believer who’ll let him and to entrepreneur the heck out of anything he can. Spare moments are for novels, to read and dream of writing…

SO WHY WESTWOOD?
The parish church is called St John’s, the area is Westwood. This church is a new start from the end of two great congregations: Park Fellowship and St John’s which have always been known together as “Westwood”. We came completely together in January 2016.
We have a history of working with students, both British and Internationals and of gathering people from around Coventry and its Warwickshire fringe. We are CofE and whilst proudly so, we sit very light to tradition and aspire to follow Word and Spirit in all things. We are heavily influenced by The Order of Mission
, charismatic renewal and are always open to learn.
Westwood has sent out missionary disciples across the world and the nation and also very close to home, particularly in areas of Coventry that get overlooked like Canley, Tile Hill and Wood End.
We believe in sharing life, worship and outreach together through the week in “Missional Communities.” These are the major building blocks of our church. We love Sunday worship and 2-3 person accountability and have various ministries aimed at serving the needy and sharing faith.
There are people of all generations in the church, though there are more young adults than any other group. We long to be a church where the generations inspire and support one another.
We’d love to help you find a home with us and be part of a family on a mission.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT ON SUNDAYS?
We meet for Sunday Celebrations at Westwood Church. We start with coffee and refreshments from 10.15am and then start the service at 10.30am. On a Sunday you’ll be joining about 200 others for lively worship (led by a band) teaching & vision and time for prayer and Holy Spirit Ministry. We welcome newcomers and visitors and are relaxed and informal in style (dress casual!). We also have a monthly service in Burton Green and a monthly evening service called ‘UP’ focussed around Youth, Students & Young Adults.
Service Times: Sundays 10.15am for 10.30am start.
Things look and feel slightly different each week at service:

WHAT DO YOU HAVE FOR MY KIDS?
During our Sunday celebrations there are groups children and teenagers right from 0- 18 years most weeks. The Kids and Youth teams at Westwood take great care in providing the highest quality ministry for children of all ages. All team undergo background check and regular training to ensure the very best care is being provided for children at all times. We love what we do and the children we get to work with!
Generally we all join together for worship, then go out to different groups. We also have multi-generational service once a month, where we are all spend the whole service together as family.
